When Pain Relief Is Personal More Than Pain Relief |
|---|
| How is chronic pain treated? Treatment of chronic pain usually involves medicines and therapy. Medicines used for chronic pain include pain relievers, antidepressants and anticonvulsants. Different types of medicines help people with different types of pain. You usually use long-acting medicines for constant pain. Short-acting medicines treat pain that comes and goes.
THE ABC's OF TREATING PAIN Several types of therapy can help ease your pain. Physical therapy (such as stretching and strengthening activities) and low-impact exercise (such as walking, swimming or biking) can help reduce the pain. However, exercising too much or not at all can hurt chronic pain patients. Occupational therapy teaches you how to pace yourself and how to do ordinary tasks differently so you won't hurt yourself. Behavioral therapy can reduce your pain through methods (such as meditation and yoga) that help you relax. It can also help decrease stress.
Lifestyle changes are also an important part of treatment for chronic pain. Getting regular sleep at night and not taking daytime naps should help. Stopping smoking helps, too, because the nicotine in cigarettes can make some medicines less effective. Smokers also have more pain than nonsmokers.
Most pain treatments will not take away all of your pain. Instead, treatment should reduce how much pain you have and how often it occurs. Talk to your doctor to learn how to best control your pain.

The ABC's Of Back Pain Flareups
Those of you familiar with life-saving first aid remember the ABC's (Airway, Breathing, and Circulation). Let's apply the ABC's to your back; "A" for arrest the offending activity, "B" for balance the pressure, "C" for control the inflammation. With the ABC's for sudden back pain, you can quickly recover from a sudden back pain attack.

| | | Many would argue that back pain is inevitable and for some it becomes a sudden reality. Bending over to pick up a piece of paper, moving furniture, or reaching for something in the car's back seat; one of these scenarios may sound familiar to you. At home or at work, you need to know what to do when a sudden attack of back pain occurs. Fortunately, most back pain will get better naturally. But in order to improve your chances of recovery and to save yourself a trip to your doctor's office, you need to learn some first aid for back pain.
Pain Relief By The ABC's......... Arrest Let's go back to the scenarios: bending, lifting, and twisting (the BLT's). All of these activities can trigger back pain. Now, it makes no sense to keep pulling that trigger when your body is screaming "ENOUGH!" Sometimes you become so focused on finishing a task that you push past the discomfort. When you are in pain, you need to focus on some first aid for pain. Start with "A" and arrest the activity that is causing the pain. In other words, take a break and let your body recover. Remember, most back pain goes away naturally, unless you continue to push beyond what you can physically tolerate. As a general rule, give your back a 24 hour period of recovery before attempting to gradually resume your BLT's. Recovery does not mean bed rest; therefore, stay as active as possible. Recovery is not doing the laundry, lifting boxes, and pulling weeds in the yard. Those all require too much bending, lifting and twisting. Try life at half speed without BLT's until your back feels better. "Arrest" is the first step for quick relief. Balance What else should you do while you have halted the painful activity? Now, it is time for "B"-balance the pressure. Most sudden back pain attacks are caused by the discs which, like balloons or tires, are sensitive to pressure. Sudden loads of abnormal pressure by bending, lifting, or twisting leads to back pain. The best way to balance the pressure is by unloading the spine with comfortable positions. The fetal position (lying on your side with your knees pulled toward your chest) relieves pressure in your back. You can also relieve pressure by lying face down on a bed, exercise ball, or high counter top so that your chest and tummy are supported and your legs are dangling towards the ground. Try this for 20 minutes every 2 hours for the first 24 hours and then three times daily until the pain goes away. for the rest of this article click here Author: Christina Lasich, MD Weight Loss System Detoxing Hypnosis Guide Emotional Abuse Recovery FAST, FUN WEIGHT LOSS Free Links Direct | | chronic pain, solutions for life, gifts, shopping, stories, health, wellness, fitness, pain cornerstore, meditation, depression, |

You just hurt your lower back. What do you do? If you’re like many who have become back pain sufferers, you’ll reach for a bottle of pain killers and go lie down praying for the pain to ease up. But do you think that's really the best way to get back on your feet and keep the pain away? What could you do differently to ease the back pain and eliminate the back pain causes? Here is something that I use to ease my pains and help me tolerate my chronic pain flareups. |

First 15 Minutes: Apply Ice Apply ice as soon as possible after injuring your back – preferably within five minutes. The sooner you apply the ice the more it will help. This can be a cold pack, ziplock bag of crushed ice, or even a bag of frozen vegetables like peas or corn. The cold will cause nearby blood vessels to constrict, helping minimize swelling and painful inflammation which has already started. It numbs painful nerves. And the cold stimulates your body to rush more oxygen-rich blood full of antibodies and vital nutrients to repair the injury and carry away waste products as it attempts to warm the area you are cooling with the ice. First Hour: Apply Heat Applying heat after you ice your back may seem odd. But ice followed by heat is a powerful way to shock your back out of the pain-spasm cycle. Try 20 minutes of ice followed by 20 minutes of heat. Repeat up to three times and you should get at least some relief from even severe lower back pain. As heat is applied, your back muscles relax and circulation increases again as your body sends fresh blood supply to cool the area back to normal. Repeat heat treatments as necessary. I have found that for me, after the first hour, I start using 30 minute blocks of heat and ice treatments. I use and ice recirculator so I'm not using up all the ice from the ice maker and I don't have to run to the store and buy bags of ice that melts to fast. I also have an oversized heating pad that covers the areas of pain very well. In the 30 minute blocks, I apply treatment using the formula of 20 minutes of the first treatment followed by 10 minutes of the second treatment and then take a 30 minute rest using a vibrational treatment. So, if I start with ICE then I use my ICE RECIRCULATOR for 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes of my OVERSIZED/KING SIZED HEATING PAD. Then I lay on my vibrating massage mat for 30 minutes. If relief hasn't started to ease the pain so that I can tolerate the pain, I repeat the cycle but alternate the treatment application. I use my heating pad for 20 minutes followed by my ice recirculator for 10 minutes followed by my vibrational massage mat for 30 minutes. I continue this cycle until I start to feel enough pain relief that I can tolerate the pain and resume some facets of my life. My intent is to get the pain level down and get back to living a less pain filled lifestyle. First Day and Beyond: What else you should do Acute lower back pain typically comes on suddenly and can be painful enough to take your breath away, or even drop you to your knees. While ice and heat can break the initial pain-spasm cycle, you also need to consider how much you should rest, when you should exercise, and what to do about continuing pain and inflammation. Identify the cause – nearly all of the treatments people receive for back pain only focus on the symptoms and the health care professionals zoom in on only the problem area. The real key in eliminating back pain is to find out exactly what’s causing the problem... and most of the time it’s not even the back! 2. Address both the cause and the symptom – the best approach is a combination of treating the symptoms for pain relief while also addressing the underlying cause. 3. Be aware – many people suffering from back pain are not in tune with their bodies and during their treatment they do not realize what is working and what is not. In order to achieve long-term relief you have to understand how your body works, what’s causing the problem, and what changes have to be made to correct it. 4. Consistent Focused Action - achieving success in anything requires consistency and focused action. Most people with back pain won't make the time to work on their problem each day... instead they take pain killers which mask the pain and allow them to cause more damage while they continue with their life. 5. Don't do what doesn't work - we already know that most traditional treatments for back pain don't work.... why waste your time, energy, and money? The real key to eliminating back pain is to identify the true cause of the pain and then address it with a combination of treatments to treat both the cause and symptoms. Over 80% of all back pain is caused by muscle imbalances... NOT a lack of pain killers or surgery! Find out what's going on in your body and take action.

I am looking forward to working with you in the future. | | Everyday is the start of new hope that we will be able to break free of the chronic pains binds and run down the street singing and dancing, picking up our little girls and boys, tossing the ball, jumping rope, doing whatever it is that we want unrestricted by the pain. We know our family and friends don't fully understand what we are experiencing; hell we barely understand it but we still have to live thru it. **Inflammation is a response from your immune system in response to an irritant. For example, if you sprain your ankle, your immune system creates a protein called a Circulating Immune Complex (CIC for short). The CIC travels down to the injured ankle and causes pain and swelling. The pain you feel is to inform you of the injury or damage. And the swelling is protective as it prevents you from moving it and causing more irritation. This is also your body's way of running to the problem with fresh blood, antibodies and vital cells in order to begin healing and repairing the damage** Being aware of the power that our bodies posess can help in our fight against pains and pain flareups. Taking care of our bodies, treating them right is important. The sooner we discover how valuable our bodies are and how much taking care of them early in life will pay dividends later in life, the better off we will be
Meditate twice daily. Easy to learn and immediate results make this one of my favorite paths to natural pain relief. Meditation comes in a huge variety of forms --some complex, some simple. My personal favorite is just to find a sound that is pleasing to you but has no particular meaning (my sound is “som”), close your eyes, sit (or lie) still and comfortably, and repeat the sound in your mind. When your thoughts wander, notice that they have wandered and return to your sound. If you feel your pain, notice the pain and return to your sound. Start with a few minutes, and gradually lengthen to thirty minutes. You will find yourself refreshed and reinvigorated, with less pain overall. Meditation can also help reduce the depression, anxiety, stress and sleeping problems that often accompany chronic pain. Getting enough recuperative sleep. Getting enough sleep is important and crucial in managing the pain and healing, so it’s important to employ a variety of sleep aids to help you get a healthy amount of sleep. Regular exercise that physically exhausts the body is the best way to promote deep sleep. Visualization, meditation, and other psychological techniques can also help you get to sleep and stay asleep. And don’t forget the power of naps. A refreshed mind can help tolerate pain flareups and give you clear focus when you meditate. A strong meditation session can go along way in preparing your body and mind to tolerate your chronic pains daily as well as fight thru inevitable flareups quicker and with a more positive mindset. |
