| PAIN AND THE IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE Your Body Full Of Power And Grace For me, One of the most aggravating things for me as a chronic back pain sufferer, is getting in and out of my vehicle. I drive and SUV and some people might think that having an SUV would make getting in and out of a vehicle easier; to a degree it does. I don't have to duck as much which saves me pains in my neck and I can put the seat back far enough so my legs are stretched comfortably in front of me. The problem is the motion to get in or get out of the vehicle. That twisting motion to swing your legs in and out after your butt is partly in the seat, THAT's the culprit. Most of my back pain originates from the lower back region so any additional motion, especially a twisting motion, feels like I'm putting my bones and nerves through a meat grinder. The burning, pulling and stabbing sensation only increases each time I get in or get out of any vehicle. The pain gets so bad that I have to take a break thru meds and do the ice/heat thing to try to calm down the pain that is in my back and the effects that are radiating down my legs into my feet and toes. I'm sure each of us has our own experience with pain and it's affects on our body when we engage in activites that were once and not to be contrite here, but activities that we took for granted we would always be able to do. I mean, why not? We were doing well. Living our lives. Working our jobs. Spending our recreation time engaging in our hobbies and physical activities. Why would we think anything different, right? Why should we? Who plans to become affected by pain? Who actually imagines that they are going to be disabled by chronic pain? That fibromyalgia is going to strike them? Arthritis? Yeah, we know it exists but we don't plan on arthritis afflicting us. What we do plan on is living as long as GOD allows us and making the most of our lives. We plan on enjoying our lives. Enjoying our families and when it's all said and done, having left some sort of legacy that our descendants can look at and not hold their heads in shame. Well, most of us have planned it that way. Some of us kinda want a legacy steeped in controversy and wild rumors. Either way, keeping our body in alignment with our plans is an important of achieving any goals we may have for our lives. That's why being aware of the power of our body and living a healthier, happier, less pain, full life is what we deserve and what GOD wants us to have. Poll Results: Neuropathy’s Impact on Your Family We polled our constituents to learn how neuropathy impacts their families. The following charts represent the results of our polling to date:
Blood-nerve barrier model allows closer look at diseases affecting peripheral nerves HOUSTON -- (February 2, 2010) -- The cells regarded as the "gate-keepers" of the barrier between blood circulation and the peripheral nerves have been hard to study and even harder to isolate. However, researchers at Baylor College of Medicine have created a laboratory model that will enable scientists to study a wide variety of diseases affecting peripheral nerves. They describe their model in the January 2010 issue of the Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology. Specialized vascular system"The barrier is known as the blood-nerve barrier and it regulates how peripheral nerves work. READ THE REST HERE
What I ReDiscover EveryDay Finding support groups and other people who can understand what you are experiencing and relate to the impact your pain has on your lifestyle and the interactions with family, spouses, friends, children and co-workers. I have been working on ways to share the ideas and methods I use to tolerate my chronic pains and the process that helps ease my chronic pain flareups. I haven’t found a way to be pain free but I have been fortunate enough to break through some of my flareups and start living a healthier, happier, less pain filled lifestyle daily. After gathering shared experiences and my own experiences, I discovered that the only way to really start to fight back against chronic pains is by using multi-modal processes. That’s just my fancy way of saying that we have to address many different areas and methods to effectively begin to tolerate our chronic pains better. Taking medicine alone doesn’t work. Talking to a psychiatrist alone doesn’t work. More surgery isn’t the answer. No, addressing our life for the valuable and wonderful gift it is can lead to our tolerating our pain better. The jist of the matter is, and please note, I AM NOT A DOCTOR- I AM A PERSON WHO SUFFERS WITH CHRONIC PAINS AND WANTS TO GET MY LIFE BACK. That has been my driving force, my motivation. To return to being the father, husband, brother, son, friend and co-worker I once was. To do that, to re-capture our life we must address the following: Depression, ours and our significant others, our spouses, our childrens, friends and co-workers as we are all affected by the pain taking me/you away from them. Medicinal, using meds that can take the edge off but not render us comatose and un-alert, forgetful and totally dependent. Yes, we are addicted but not in a negative way as our bodies are actually using the meds to fight the pain but we will need to be walked through withdrawal to get off the meds. Physically, we need to use ice, heat, massage, exercise and rest. Until we are in a position to treat our chronic pains from all fronts, we will not effectively be able to ease the pains or tolerate the flareups. It is necessary that all facets of the multi-modal pain treatment system are being utilized if we want to begin to get our life back from the grasp of chronic pains such as Fibromyalgia, Sciatica, RSD, Neuropathy, Arthritis, Migraines, Back Pains and others. I hope you are able to wean some helpful information from this. I wish you a strong and successful fight. Just know that you have another person who truly understands what you are going thru and the many obstacles that you have to navigate just to deal with your pain let alone tolerate it better or ease it all together.
