Making Living Well A Better Part Of Life

MEDITATION: Getting Your Body In Tune

When we are in great pain, finding true peace and comfort is not easy. But it is possible, if we first try to still our worries and fears, both external and internal. Finding a place where there are no noisy distractions is a great start. Enjoying the outward quiet, we can then calm our inner selves and nurture peace within. Make Meditation part of your daily chronic pain toleration and easement practice.  Meditation can be done anytime you can find a quite place and 15 to 20 minutes to slow down and focus on easing your pains.

Everyday is the start of new hope that we will be able to break free of the chronic pains binds and run down the street singing and dancing, picking up our little girls and boys, tossing the ball, jumping rope, doing whatever it is that we want unrestricted by the pain.  We know our family and friends don't fully understand what we are experiencing; hell we barely understand it but we still have to live thru it.

**Inflammation is a response from your immune system in response to an irritant. For example, if you sprain your ankle, your immune system creates a protein called a Circulating Immune Complex (CIC for short). The CIC travels down to the injured ankle and causes pain and swelling.

The pain you feel is to inform you of the injury or damage. And the swelling is protective as it prevents you from moving it and causing more irritation. This is also your body's way of running to the problem with fresh blood, antibodies and vital cells in order to begin healing and repairing the damage**

What I ReDiscover EveryDay

Your Body Has Pains That Can Make Even Superman Seem Human

Too many of us choose to be "tough" and work thru the various pains that flareup from time to time. I'm as guilty of doing that as the next person that's why I feel validated in saying that not every pain should be just worked thru. Sometimes we have to take appropriate action to give our body a chance to heal or begin the healing process. A warm soak or an ice bag or a massage and a phone call to your doctor just to be sure can go a long way to getting the healing started on the right track. I know many of us self medicate and grab the various over the counter meds to quell the rising pain and avoid the costly visit to the family doctor or emergency room. There are steps that we can take to do right by our bodies and we owe it to ourselves to take these steps.

I do know that your
body doesn't forget what you do to it. You might get away with doing things when you are young and at the peak of your physical abilities but as you get older, your body will begin to revisit those "checks" you cashed earlier and you will have to start putting the "money" in the account. Aches and pains do come back to haunt you later on. How many of you hear that occassional grunt or groan when you or somebody you know goes to get up from a chair or off the floor if they happen to settle there for a brief period? The extra snap, crackle and pop of your joints when you stretch? Or that really unexpected shoulder lock up when you go to reach for something like you have for the last umpteen years? That's your body telling you it's time to start paying back what you so gloriously enjoyed early on in life but that doesn't signal a death sentence, it just means you have to start a regimen of taking better care of yourself and that most times includes going to the doctor to get yourself checked out completely.

What's that old saying, "you can pay me now or you can pay me later". That's how it is folks. So, I recommend that you get started on some kind of physical maintenance program and maintain it throughout your life. Work with your doctor to develop a plan that's right for you and whatever you do, don't cheat yourself by shortcutting the plan. Stick with it and when things get stretched or pulled to far, let your body recover properly. In a few years, you'll be so glad you did.

Being aware of the power that our bodies posess can help in our fight against pains and pain flareups.  Taking care of our bodies, treating them right is important.  The sooner we discover how valuable our bodies are and how much taking care of them early in life will pay dividends later in life, the better off we will be.

One way that people treat their bodies right is to have regular massages.  While opinions are mixed on what the value and effects of massages are, it's a common opinion that massages feel good and thererfore they are good.  I believe that massages have their place in the pain management arena.  LIke anything, you have to use yourmind to help you make the right choice for you.  Listen to your body.  If you fel an occassional massage will benefit you, then try it and ses.  Just educate yourself on all of the options out there.

Massage Therapy Flaw #1: Massage is not a one-time fix for muscle pain. You feel great when you get one and for awhile afterwards.

But a week or two goes by and your muscles start to hurt again. For lasting relief you'll need to go back often, and at $80-$150 a pop massage therapy gets very expensive over time.

Massage Therapy Flaw #2: Because it's so expensive you put off going for months at a time. Some people almost never get the treatments they need for no other reason than they can't afford them.

It's a shame. You shouldn't have to be Donald Trump to get relief from painful muscles.

Massage Therapy Flaw #3: You're not getting instant treatment. You have to schedule a session, wait around with painful muscles for days or weeks.

It would be so much better if you could get a deep-tissue massage whenever you want it.

Massage Therapy Flaw #4: You can walk away feeling worse than before the massage. Some people hate getting deep-tissue massages because they feel so bad afterward.

Why? Because aggressive massage creates micro-tears in the muscles, often activating dormant trigger points, causing pain.

Meditation; Refresh Your Ability To OverCome Chronic Pain Flareups

I found this really cool site:  http://www.destinies.com  They have some online tests that you can take that can help chronic pain sufferers, people suffering pain flareups and just anybody else, findout where they are emotionally and mentally in regards to themselves and the world around them.  That's a huge issue for us chronic pain sufferers.  When you are in pain, you tend to become very selfish, only thinking about what is going to make YOU feel better. The fact is that one of the fastest ways to feel better about yourself is to do something nice or kind to or for somebody.  Think about how that effort and the focus required to make sure it's a positive interaction, will steer your mind away from the current pain and allow you to complete the task you are undertaking.  Check it out for yourself.  I enjoyed it and found it quite eye opening.  http://www.destinies.com

Meditation; Refresh Your Ability To OverCome Chronic Pain Flareups

Arthritis and Fibromyalgia: Arthritis and Fibromyalgia sufferers deal with pain on a daily basis. Sometimes this pain can be crippling. Healing meditation can decrease the stress on muscles and joints. This reduces the pain sensations that these sufferers experience. Healing meditation can also help reduce inflammation thus reducing pain.

General Health: Healing meditation is a whole body experience. Every ounce of your body and mind benefits from meditation. This yields a positive attitude which further enhances your well being. Practicing meditation is a win-win experience for anyone. You can enjoy the benefits of meditation regardless of your age, gender, or skill level.

Stop and set aside time each day to meditate. You can ease any health ailments that you have to deal with every day. Healing meditation will lift your spirits as well which is key if you want to conquer your health condition.

Meditate twice daily. Easy to learn and immediate results make this one of my favorite paths to natural pain relief. Meditation comes in a huge variety of forms --some complex, some simple. My personal favorite is just to find a sound that is pleasing to you but has no particular meaning (my sound is “som”), close your eyes, sit (or lie) still and comfortably, and repeat the sound in your mind. When your thoughts wander, notice that they have wandered and return to your sound. If you feel your pain, notice the pain and return to your sound. Start with a few minutes, and gradually lengthen to thirty minutes. You will find yourself refreshed and reinvigorated, with less pain overall. Meditation can also help reduce the depression, anxiety, stress and sleeping problems that often accompany chronic pain.

Getting enough recuperative sleep. Getting enough sleep is important and crucial in  managing the pain and healing, so it’s important to employ a variety of sleep aids to help you get a healthy amount of sleep. Regular exercise that physically exhausts the body is the best way to promote deep sleep. Visualization, meditation, and other psychological techniques can also help you get to sleep and stay asleep. And don’t forget the power of naps.  A refreshed mind can help tolerate pain flareups and give you clear focus when you meditate.  A strong meditation session can go along way in preparing your body and mind to tolerate your chronic pains daily as well as fight thru inevitable flareups quicker and with a more positive mindset.
